Everfuel and Crossbridge Energy receive grant for HySynergy liquid e-fuel study

Jul 21, 2022

Fredericia, 21 June 2022 – Everfuel A/S and Crossbridge Energy A/S are pleased to announce that the two companies, in collaboration with Aalborg University, have received public support for a feasibility study of potential future production of liquid e-fuels in Fredericia, Denmark.

The total grant amounts to DKK 5.8 million. The grant will be used to co-finance the pre-feasibility study, which will include the development of a test production plant, which will, among other things, be used to explore different electrolysis technologies at the Everfuel Tech site.

In the test phase, a broad use of e-fuels as a clean fuel for mobility, potentially as a replacement for jet fuel in aviation and for ship traffic, must be looked at. It could, for example, be produced by converting green hydrogen into methanol in a reactor via catalysis with carbon dioxide (CO2).

Everfuel will supply the hydrogen from the HySynergy electrolysis plant, while Crossbridge Energy will supply the CO2 from its refinery. The test facility will be located on Crossbridge Energy’s land at the refinery in Fredericia. The results will be used to evaluate potential future industrial-scale e-fuel production and will explore ways to combine green hydrogen with CO2 in efforts to find sustainable fuels.

“Green hydrogen is the key to unlocking large-scale zero-emission mobility on land, in the air and at sea. We look forward to working with Crossbridge Energy and Aalborg University to get more and better data related to e-fuel production, including how to optimize the processes in relation to hydrogen production. Exploring the synergies in this project will be very interesting and pave the way for even better ways to utilize the green hydrogen we produce,” says Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO of Everfuel.

“New and more sustainable fuels are a must for future transport. Now we get to investigate and map out the possibilities with methanol. It looks exciting,” says Finn Schousboe, CEO of Crossbridge Energy.
